Genelia D’Souza was born on 5th August 1987, into a Mangalorean Catholic family. She is a Roman Catholic. She has been raised in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai. Her father Neil D’Souza is a senior office with Tata Consultancy Services. Her mother Jeanette D’Souza was a secretary to the managing director of Pharma MNC. She left her job in 2004 to help Genelia with her career.
Genelia did her schooling from Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra. Later she acquired her Bachelor’s Degree in Management Studies from St. Andrews College in Bandra.Genelia was a state level athlete, sprinter and a National level Football player.

In 2008, Genelia D’Souza was seen in SANTOSH SUBRAMANIAM. It was the remake of the Telugu film BOMMARILLU (2006), which also starred Genelia.The film was successful at the box office and Genelia received rave reviews.

Telugu Films

Genelia D’Souza made her Telugu debut with SATYAM (2003), opposite Sumanth.She received positive reviews for her performance as a medical student.
Next she was seen in SAMBA (2004) and SYE (2004), in which she played a youthful and bubbly college student.

In 2005, she was seen in NAA ALLUDU, alongside Jr. NTR, Shriya Saran and Ramya Krishnan. The film did not succeed at the box office. Next she starred in SUBASH CHANDRA BOSE, set in the pre-Independence era, just before the British left India. The film also starred Venkatesh and Shriya Saran.

In 2006, Genelia was seen in 3 Telugu films, HAPPY, RAAM and BOMMARILLU. The film revolved around a father’s excessive concern for his son, and interference in his life, which leads to the latter feeling some bitterness towards his overbearing father. Genelia was paired opposite Siddharth. Genelia played a cheerful and energetic engineering student who Siddharth falls in love with. The film was a huge success. Genelia won the Telugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She also won the Nandi Special Jury Award and Santosham Award for Best Actress.

In 2007, she was seen in DHEE. In 2008, Genelia was seen in a cameo as herself in the film KING. Her other films in 2008 were MR. MEDHAVI and SATYA IN LOVE.
In 2009 she was seen in SASIREKHA PARINAYAM and KATHA.

Genelia D’Souza was seen in ITS MY LIFE, opposite Harman Baweja and HOOK YA CROOK, opposite John Abraham, Kay Kay Menon, Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao.

As a Host on Television

Genelia D’Souza was the host BIG SWITCH, a television show based on creating a friendly bond between slum kids and rich youngsters. The show was aired on the UTV Bindaas channel.

Personal Life
Genelia D’Souza has been linked to her co-star Riteish Deshmukh since they made their debut together in TUJHE MERI KASAM (2003). However Genelia has never been open to the media and public about her relationship with Riteish and they keep denying it.

Genelia is deeply religious. She regularly attends Sunday Mass at St.Anne’s Parish in Bandra. Whenever her family is at home in the evening, they make a point to say the rosary together.
